Words We Hear Too Often | A Poem by Chloe Earl

don’t tell me I’m beautiful
talk to me about the way my laugh sends shivers down your spine
tell me that every time you’re around me you’re inclined
to smile
don’t tell me I’m pretty
that word is overrated
tell me that the words I speak are hated
by some but they make so much sense to you
don’t tell me I’m skinny
that word is god-awful
talk to me about how you think I’m the opposite of dull
don’t tell me I have a nice figure
I’m sick of those words
I just want my voice to be heard
as something other than a silly girl trying to be smart
try to look deeper than my face
into my heart
