The Poet Community

Bella’s Day | A Poem by Donal Mahoney

Bella takes two
big pills
every morning
followed by one each
of another three.
They’re different colors
which makes it easy,
Bella says.

At noon she takes
two more of the big ones
plus a different pill
about half that size
but the same color.
The different sizes
make it easy,
Bella says

At night she takes
two more of the big ones
plus another
of the three she takes
every morning.
That’s when
it gets confusing,
Bella says.

But after a night’s sleep
she’s ready to take
two more big ones
in the morning
plus the other three.
She won’t be doing
this much longer,
Bella says.
