Put a Fork in Herb | A Poem by Donal Mahoney

Herb remembers when he was young
he’d go to the doctor and complain
about aches and pains and sniffles.
Now he’s up in years and still
goes to the doctor but never
complains about anything.
The doctor orders lots of tests
and Herb goes home hoping
the results won’t come back
and say, “Put a fork in Herb.
This man is done.”
